Bucharest National Opera House Art Exhibition Mreje.
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
During 15th of December 2025, Bucharest National Opera House holder the art exhibition named by Anita Drella Mreje. “Mreje.” was presented at the Bucharest National Opera House as part of the Bucharest Opera Christmas Market 2025. Anita Drella has a rather unusual interdisciplinary background. Her interests extend beyond visual art into architecture and philosophy, which gives the exhibition a potentially different context from a conventional gallery display.
Mreje. was not just an art exhibition, as Drella’s interests corelate art, philosophy and architecture - she brought together visual art and intellectual discussion, with Anita Drella's work being placed in conversation with two prominent Romanian thinkers: acad. prof. dr. Mircea Dumitru and prof. dr. arch. Augustin Ioan. The two speakers brought together philosophy and architecture, as Mircea Dumitru was her philosophy teacher, on language & meaning, and Ioan on her masteral studies on architecture. She brought them together as a unmovable link between philosophical contemplation and architectural design.
Mircea Dumitru is a prominent Romanian philosopher and academic, specializing particularly in philosophy of language, philosophical logic, and analytic metaphysics. He is a professor at the University of Bucharest and a member of the Romanian Academy. Augustin Ioan is a romanian architect, architectural theorist, professor and writer. He is a teaches at the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism (UAUIM) in Bucharest, where he lectures on subjects connected with architectural theory and the philosophy of space.
This exhibition was a dialogue between philosophy, architecture and so much more. The artist chose the name “Mreje.” to point out arts capacity of surrounding ourselves and luring us in a different space-time framework without us noticing that. The title Mreje. — “nets” or “webs” — becomes especially appropriate: the event itself created a network of connections between art, philosophy, architecture, the Opera space and the audience. That makes the title Mreje particularly suggestive: a “net” can be understood not only as a physical object but also as a network of relationships, perceptions, meanings and interpretations.
In other words, the artwork itself can become a kind of “net” that catches the viewer's attention and draws them into an experience.
Why was it at the Opera?
The location is significant.
The exhibition was installed in the Yellow Foyer of the Bucharest National Opera, rather than in a conventional contemporary-art gallery. Few know that Anita Drella is a professional classical ballerina, having practiced it professionally for over 14 years; this location holds a dear place for her, including the fact that it brings together visual art with the art of movement and music. She chose for her first exhibition, the place she always refers to as her “home”.
What was actually exhibited?
The artist selected few of her works made between 2019-2024 during her intense philosophical research studies - those represent a reflection toward the world and our relation to it. This exhibition ended on 3rd January 2026.
